The new MBA for CIMA

An executive MBA specifically aimed at CIMA members has been launched by Dublin City University Business School (DCU). The new MBA for CIMA, which will start on 1 October 2016, will allow students to combine the best elements of the existing MBA programme, which has been running since 1990, with an advanced finance element which builds on core financial skills to reflect the strategic nature of modern management and accounting.

"By tailoring the programme for CIMA we aim to give professional accountants the skills and qualifications to take on top general management roles in Ireland and abroad," explained Professor Ferdinand Von Prondzynski, president of DCU.

The course is aimed to encourage networking among students. While the CIMA accounting element, which is available only to qualified accountants, will be closed, all other classes will be in mixed groups of students from a wide range of professions. "People with financial acumen, entrepreneurial flair and a profound understanding of how 21st century organisations and economies work are vital for success," explained Michael Woods, minister for education, who launched the qualification.

"To survive in the global economy, people must be equipped with the skills to face these challenges and to ensure that their organisation realises its strategic vision and succeeds in its objectives. This MBA will provide accountants with an opportunity to develop and enhance their skills in order to meet these challenges."

Sean Shine, president of CIMA in Ireland, agreed. "CIMA is the qualification of choice for financial and management personnel, while DCU provides a prestigious executive MBA programme. CIMA is delighted that our two institutions can come together to provide a premier qualification targeted at CIMA members."
